Wow, thanks!!! Yes, I'm coming to the conclusion that PRE9 leaves much to be desired and that PRE7 was the last decent version. Even Stad Def editing on PC can be hard work - and using the software on anything less than a full-flight Mac is a complete waste of time. It looks like Adobe is blowing it all away, which is a pity.

Anyhow, it's always gratifying to get positive feedback - especially to the "oops" bits. I intentionally kept them in for the reason you mentioned above. Cheers.

I've been using PRE7 for quite some time (and am a frequent contributor at the Adobe PRE community forum). My daughter recently expressed a desire to learn a little more about it. So I've bought these DVD's and have run them through myself. I love them - they cover pretty much most of the ground (except SmartSound) and are quintessentially British. The occasional 'oops' and 'don't know what that one does' actually (in my opinion) add to the 'tutor at your side' feeling.

At £15 they're a steal. And even better, as PRE9 trial sucks on my machine, I'll be staying with 7 until PRE10.

That's the kind of post I like, Oscar! Although I skipped the task of producing a new set of tutorials for PRE8 for precisely the reason you suggest, I am actually in the process of producing some new ones to introduce people to PRE9. Interestingly, it isn't much different to PRE8; they've moved a few bits and pieces around but, more importantly, they've removed a fair bit of stuff that isn't immediately noticeable until you start rummaging around during editing. Today, I edited some test footage of the new JVC Everio GC-WV10 underwater packetcam which I intentionally shot as 720p because Premiere Elements really doesn't like 1080/50i, 50p or even 25p clips in 32-bit mode. The next generation will surely be 64-bit and not before time. (That said, it means I have to upgrade technology as well so let's wait a while).

Of course, the big thing about PRE9 is that it's now available for Apple Mac users too, which pleases me greatly because the only player in that space at the moment is Final Cut Express - costing more money!

To the people with PEL8:

I have PEL8 and have just finished the Tutorials for PEL7.

I can say that I hardly didn't notice - the interface seems to be the same. There are a few new things in PREL8, such as support for the IPAD, but you don't need a tutorial to figure it out. I think the AutomaticAnalyser is new too, but that is such a nuisance everybody advises turning it off.

It's well worth £15.

I had to put the Premiere Elements 8 tutorials on the back burner due to family health problems this end. However, I'm back on the case now and I hope to have some modules online and ready for download via a secure gateway soon.

Hi I have Adobe Premier Elements 8
and your tutorial Disc 1 PE7.
Just wondered regarding you progress with Tutorials for PE8.
Alternatively are your Tutorials for PE7 compatable for all intents and purposes with PE8?

Thanks! I'm in the process of producing a new set of downloable modules for Premiere Elements 8 but I've been delayed lately by an urgent commission - to produce screencast tutorials in support of a major European Union-funded software development project. I'll be back on track soon and I'll post news to everyone asap. Thanks for the kind comments. Watch this space! :-)

Hi Colin.
Any word yet on being able to download the tutorials? Its a little more "carbon friendly" (or at least less unfriendly) than posting them half way around the world? ;-)
Love what I've seen on YouTube so far (cunning move!)
Cheers from DownUnder.

Hi. Yes, I am producing an update but the additional modules will serve only as supplementary modules rather than a replacement DVD set or such. I'm planning that they'll be available for download, discounted for existing owners of the DVDs. I'll post news when they're ready.
