Sony has announced its new flagship NEX-7 D-SLR camera that possesses a 24.3 (effective) megapixels Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and Full HD Movie shooting capabilities in the form of 50p/25p AVCHD, manual focus, full manual exposure control and improved audio. The NEX-7 is also the world’s first compact camera to feature an XGA OLED TruFinder for precision framing and focusing.

Sony has added another impressive digital stills camera capable of shooting high quality, Full HD video to its range of NEX camera product range. The newly-announced NEX-5N facilitates shooting of full 50p (or 60p) and 25p HD movie clips using a lens that offers manual focus and full exposure control. According to Sony, it also offers improved audio recording facilities over its predecessor, the NEX-5.

Movie Edit Pro has established itself as a sturdy, reliable Windows-based video editing application from German software developer MAGIX. Now in version 17, it's proving very popular with home movie makers and serious enthusiasts alike. Despite its relative simplicity, however, it can still take a bit of getting used to if you're a complete video editing newbie.
We've produced a set of 24 screencast tutorial modules that will get you on the right track. They're not quite ready for download yet, but will be soon. In the meantime, here's a sample module that deals with the technique used to re-balance colour within a clip or sequence of clips.

Is Apple having a laugh? If this was meant to be named "iMovie Pro X" then it's a very good upgrade of iMovie that will excite many - especially newbies to digital video looking to step up a notch. It may also be ideal for some so-called pro-sumers, too. But if this is aimed at professional users - especially editors working in a networked, file-sharing environment where every second counts in post and where content needs to laid back to tape for delivery to the client - then Apple has just given the whole market to Avid and Adobe.
