With Cisco announcing that it is to close down its camcorder business in an effort to restore Wall Street confidence in the company, it has effectively sounded the death-knell for the Flip range of pocket-camcorders. What does this say about the pocket camcorder market in general - and have multi-function HD Video smartphones now won the day?

As regular SimplyDV followers will know, we're a bit undecided about the real value of pocket-sized video cameras - especially the ones that purport to produce HD video clips. However, Panasonic's new range of HM-TA1 HD video cameras might just bring about a change of attitude.
