Panasonic’s flagship HDC-TM700 reviewed
The latest in a line of superb quality HD camcorders from the company that now lays claim to being the UK’s number one HD camcorder brand, Panasonic’s top-of-the-range AVCHD cam offers more facilities at higher quality than any of its previous HD camcorder products. Read our exclusive in-depth review of this new model.
As well as providing Full-HD 1080/50p (60p) progressive frame recording in addition to its default 1080/50i (60i) setting, the TM700 offers users the choice of either 32GB built-in Flash Memory or SDHC/SDXC Card recording and playback. And if users run out of space on one of these, the camera can be told to automatically continue recording onto the other without any noticeable glitches thanks to its handy “Relay Recording” mode.
Serious video-making enthusiasts will, of course, welcome the addition of a microphone input, headphone output and useful accessory shoe adaptor for supporting a mic or video light.
Moreover, it has an electronic viewfinder and generates stunning high definition video images thanks to the incorporation of three 1/4.1″ CMOS image sensors (“3MOS”).
As always, we’ve spent a fair bit of time getting to know this latest flagship camcorder from Panasonic and – true to form – you can now get the full SimplyDV lowdown right here, right now.

Just bought the SD700 as I don’t like the idea of my footage stuck inside the camera if there was a failure. Prefer SD cards. 1 question: What is the best way to work with the camera? Would it be better to shoot in 1080 50p then convert to 1280 x 720 50p for editing and finally export 720 50p to bluray?

Very helpful review of the HDC-TM700EBK, thanks. Regarding the redesign to get rid of fan noise whilst filming in very quiet conditions: when will this be available in the UK and how will we be able to distinguish the new/old versions, please? From what you were saying will the fan be kept unchanged and only replaced in subsequent models?

The Panasonic website says in their ’700′ series section part entitled ‘Zooming In On The Lens’ –
“The Leica Dicomar Lens on the HS700 and TM700 models is manufactured using measuring instruments and quality assurance systems that have been certified by Leica Camera AG based on the company’s quality standards.”Does this mean that the SD700 is not the same lense as the other two? That it has not been through the same ‘quality assurance systems’? I would like to get an SD700 but am hesitant because the lense is as important as any other part of the camera.
Any comments on this would be welcome.

I have recently invested in the SD700 model. Can anyone recommend a reliable external hard drive to store the full HD video I have taken of my young family so far & also easy to use editing software?
